Each year on World Refugee Day, we pause to honour the strength, courage, and resilience of people who have been forced to flee their homes. In 2025, as we mark this important day, our hearts and efforts remain firmly rooted in Gaza, where one of the most acute humanitarian crises of our time continues to unfold.
Since October 2023, Gaza has witnessed unprecedented devastation. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that at least 94% of all hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed, leaving the population with little to no access to essential healthcare. Amidst this destruction, millions have been internally displaced, living in overcrowded shelters, tents, or makeshift accommodations.
At Doctors Worldwide, our mission is to respond where the need is greatest. And right now, Gaza needs all of us.

With the support of our incredible grassroots partners, we've been able to remain on the ground, providing critical medical aid and psychosocial support to displaced families.
Since our response began:
- 33,259 patients have received essential medical care
- 2,000 individuals have accessed mental health services
- 34,254 people have received nutritious meals
- 2,880 pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have been supported by our lactation program
In a region where functioning hospitals are nearly nonexistent, we’ve established two active medical tents in Deir Al-Balah and Al-Qarara. These tents are more than just temporary structures; they are lifelines, providing primary healthcare to thousands who would otherwise go untreated. Additionally, we are supporting a primary healthcare centre in Gaza’s middle area, where we serve a growing population of displaced families, children, and the elderly.
Furthermore, we’re supporting the delivery of breastfeeding support through 10 lactation consultants across three hospitals, including Nasser and Al Aqsa Hospitals, and in two neonatal units. This is vital work that protects the most vulnerable: newborns and mothers.
We’re also offering health education sessions and psychosocial support, especially for children who have lived through unimaginable trauma.
World Refugee Day is not just about acknowledging displacement – it’s about affirming the right to dignity, safety, and care. Refugees in Gaza are not numbers; they are people with stories, talents, families, and futures.
Donate to our work in Gaza.
