Last month we kicked off our ‘In the Spotlight’ series, which shines a light on some of our amazing DICE Programme participants, who regularly took time away from their busy schedules as healthcare professionals working in clinics in the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) to attend our weekly Emergency Care training sessions between April – December 2020.
Today, we meet Jubayer Mumin, a Medical Doctor who has been working in Rohingya response for over 3 years. Previously, he was part of our Cohort A Postgraduate Fellowship Programme (PGF) in 2018. It has been wonderful seeing some of our PGF alumni return to work with us in order to increase their skill set as healthcare workers and flourish as leaders in the Rohingya Response. Dr Jubayer is a perfect example of this.
Read on to learn a little about him, why he chose his profession, and what he has gained from participating in the DICE Programme.
Tell me something about yourself!
I like travelling and making friends with new people.
What do you love about your role?
As a Physician, I love to consider myself a humanitarian worker who works in the primary care setting and has the chance to help relieve the suffering of communities in distress. As a Public Health Professional with a special focus on Health Systems, I dream to establish a strong referral system in Bangladesh.
What have you learnt whilst participating in the DICE Programme?
DICE has taught me how to deal with health emergencies in low resource settings. Serving in health emergencies with the available assets has become easier after receiving training from the DICE course. Being enrolled in the DICE program, I have recognised the importance of a well-ordered emergency department and [because of this] we reorganized our emergency department. We started doing ECGs and we rearranged the emergency equipment cabinet according to A-B-C-D. We learned the process of patient handovers and now we do not miss any important information during handover.
