Bridging Healthcare Gap in Rural Pakistan

04/21/2026 12:40pm

High in the remote mountains of Mansehra, Pakistan, accessing healthcare is not as simple. For many families, it means travelling in rural areas for hours along difficult terrains, often while carrying a sick child in their arms, hoping they will arrive in time.

In Pakistan, 1 in 14 children do not live to see their fifth birthday (UNICEF). In rural areas, the challenge is even more severe as child deaths are caused by conditions that could have been treated if care had been accessible when it was needed most.

For two-year-old Abrish, a treatable illness almost cost her life.

For six months, Abrish suffered from high fevers, a persistent cough, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Her parents did everything they could. They sought help from multiple doctors and tried different treatments, holding on to hope each time. But nothing seemed to work. With every passing week, their worry grew as Abrish’s condition failed to improve.

Eventually, they reached the Doctors Worldwide hospital in Mansehra where she received an accurate diagnosis and the right treatment for a bacterial infection that had gone undetected. At the hospital, Abrish received comprehensive and attentive care. The medical team closely monitored her condition, identified the underlying issues, and provided the right treatment.

The change was almost immediate.

Within just one week, Abrish began to recover. Her fever subsided, her cough eased, and her energy slowly returned. The child who had spent months in discomfort was finally able to smile, play, and simply be a child again.

Abrish’s story is one of hope but it is also a reminder. Too many children are still waiting for the care they need. Too many families are still making long, uncertain journeys, unsure if help will come in time.

Accessible Healthcare, Giving Children a Chance to Heal and Grow

Every year in Pakistan, thousands of patients, including many babies and young children, lose their lives to conditions that are easily  treatable, often due to limited access to timely, quality healthcare. These are not just statistics, but devastating losses for families and communities, many of which could be prevented through simple, low-cost interventions, such as antibiotics for pneumonia or a sachet of rehydration salts for diarrhoea.

Your contribution can help to change this. By supporting our programmes in Pakistan, you are bringing essential, life-saving care closer to families in need, giving children like Abrish the chance to thrive so they can build healthier, happier futures.
