Inauguration of the Post-Graduate Fellowship on Refugee & Migrant Health

On the 12th of July 2018, Doctors Worldwide officially launched the Post Graduate Fellowship [PGF] on Refugee & Migrant Health in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh. This 12-week training is being delivered to increase the capacity and skills of local Bangladeshi doctors working in the Rohingya Camps, particularly for those who have never practiced medicine within a humanitarian crisis/setting before.

Initiated in December 2017, over seven months of planning and preparation occurred including a 2-week pilot programme in February 2018 from the Doctors Worldwide team and its dedicated volunteer medics, which later resulted in the official launch of the PGF in July 2018.

Over 70 local Bangladeshi doctors applied to attend the course representing more than 30 NGOs. Our course material was put together by 20+ NHS doctors to make this training a success.

The PGF 2018 course is now in its 7th week and among the topics already covered include; Ethics and Medical Impartiality, Triage and Acute Medical Care, Mental Health, Communication Strategies, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, respiratory infections and much more. The PGF has a strong focus on 121 clinical shadowing to enable and empower local Bangladeshi doctors to respond to the specific health needs displayed within humanitarian settings in real time.

Doctors Worldwide would like to extend its appreciation  to IOM – UN Migration for supporting us in Bangladesh and facilitating Doctors Worldwide to carry out its training. We would also like to thank our dedicated team of volunteer medics that have gone to Bangladesh to deliver the training and conduct 121 clinical shadowing within the Rohingya camps. These include:
