Humanitarian Medical Aid Course, 8+9 Oct 2016

August 20, 2016

Venue: Manchester Conference Centre, Manchester, M1 3BB

6 Hrs CPD Accredited

The Course

10 years strong and revamped, the Humanitarian Medical Aid Course is an educational experience like no other. Developed by Doctors Worldwide, the course is open to all health care professionals who are looking to begin their journey in the complex industry of humanitarian work, and want to make a difference to the world and the lives of others.

The course aims to share knowledge and experiences, encourage debate, promote reflection as well as have a good time networking, while introducing concepts around humanitarian medical emergencies and longer-term health development programmes.

The Faculty

The Course is taught by an experienced faculty of practitioners who have blended their medical careers with volunteerism. They’ve witnessed and worked across the divide of emergencies and long term health development. This expertise, backed up by on-going real life projects at Doctors Worldwide,  will be shared during the course.

The Content

Day 1 is themed around humanitarian medical relief work and covers issues around motivation and expectations, medical response in humanitarian emergencies, conducting needs assessments, humanitarian principles and cultural considerations, a simulated emergency scenario as well as a volunteer account.

Day 2 focuses more on humanitarian health development, providing a background of the global health system, as well as exploring some of the practical ways in which volunteers can get involved in such work, whether it be clinical, strengthening health systems or in teaching, in addition to sharing some tips on how to get started.
