Job Description

Doctors Worldwide is a UK based charity involved with providing medical assistance to those in need around the world. The operational platform works on the basis of teaching and training support, responding to emergencies, as well as developing long-term strategies and partnerships to provide comprehensive medical relief. The position of ‘Development Worker' has been created to reflect the organisation's growing needs. The Development Worker will have a key role in taking the organisation forward in a number of key areas during an exciting and challenging time.

Major Responsibilities

Project development and management:

  • Looking at how we can improve and extend current projects, as well as develop new projects with novel strategies.
  • Improving and developing project operational strategy as well as ensuring efficient implementation of project objectives and evaluation.
  • Preparation of reports and studies.
  • Support to field contacts.
  • Be prepared to travel abroad for short periods in order to ensure project effectiveness.

Volunteer development and management:

  • Developing and strengthening networks within the medical, dental, nursing and allied health communities, as well as enabling greater volunteer participation.
  • Developing and strengthening networks within the student community, and enabling greater participation.

Organisational development:

  • Support to the Chief Executive and Board.
  • Building on existing networks and relationships with other organisations (UK and abroad), as well as helping to foster new links.
  • Contribute to key organisational strategies.
  • Be an official DWW contact point in the UK.
  • Representing the organisation to a broad range of audiences.
  • Enhance the professional image and credibility of Doctors Worldwide.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proficient in English.
  • Good Information Technology skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Sound understanding of international development and health contexts, as demonstrated by previous work experience and/or qualifications.
  • Previous demonstrable experience in organisational and/or project development.
  • Self-motivated, confident, and a good time-keeper.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible work ethic, with willingness on exceptional occasions to work beyond expected duties in order to achieve organisational objectives, and adopt a holistic approach to their role within the organisation.
  • Professional and friendly attitude with good interpersonal and team working skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK NGO sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of African developmental issues.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Islamic culture and traditions
  • Good financial skills.
  • Good media skills.

 

Job: Fundraising Officer

Job Description

Doctors Worldwide is a UK based charity involved with providing medical assistance to those in need around the world. The operational platform works on the basis of teaching and training support, responding to emergencies, as well as developing long-term strategies and partnerships to provide comprehensive medical relief. The position of ‘Fundraising Officer' has been created to reflect the organisation's growing needs. The Fundraising Officer will have a key role in taking the organisation forward in the areas of generating greater unrestricted and restricted funding in order to enable further organisational and project development during an exciting and challenging time.

Major Responsibilities

Fundraising:

  • Generating new sources of income from a wide variety of donors.
  • Be able to successfully apply for funds/grants from the various donor institutions.
  • Improve, develop and maintain links with other organisations (governmental, non-government, corporate and charitable alike).
  • Advice and assistance in preparation of reports and studies (working with DWW staff, volunteers and Executive Committee).
  • Be prepared to travel widely within the UK in order to ensure positive outcomes to fund/grant applications and networks.
  • Develop and maintain links with high net-worth individuals.
  • Develop and strengthen links within the health community to encourage and ensure greater donorship.
  • Develop and strengthen links within the general public to encourage and ensure greater donorship.
  • Ensure donor management systems and procedures are in place so that all supporters are appropriately thanked and reported to.

Organisational development:

  • To help develop a marketing and branding strategy for the organisation.
  • Support to the Executive Director and Executive Committee.
  • Contribute to organisational decision making.
  • Quarterly FR reports for the review of the board.
  • Be an official DWW contact point in the UK.
  • Representing the organisation to a broad range of audiences.
  • Enhance the professional image and credibility of Doctors Worldwide.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Proficient in English.
  • Good Information Technology skills.

  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing fundraising and partnership strategies.
  • Successful track record of previously identifying, cultivating and securing relationships with individual and institutional donors.
  • Self-motivated, confident, and a good time-keeper.
  • Enthusiastic and flexible work ethic, with willingness on exceptional occasions to work beyond expected duties in order to achieve organisational objectives, and adopt a holistic approach to their role within the organisation.
  • Professional and friendly attitude with good interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Sound understanding of the UK donor market, and knowledge and skills in completing grant applications.
  • Previous demonstrable experience in fundraising jobs/roles with a proven record.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of international development and health contexts.
  • Understanding project planning and implementation
  • Good marketing skills.
