After the devastating tsunami on 26 December 2004 DWW sent a medical team to provide medical aid to the victims of tsunami. DWW team worked with local NGOs in the east cost in Maruthamunai and Kalmunai area.
DWW discussed the situation with local NGOs and set up projects to help the people in this area. |

- DWW bought a fully equipped ambulance and donated to Kalmunai district health services.
- DWW organised a three days psychological trauma course for local mental health workers. The course was organized with International Center for Psychosocial Trauma, University of Missouri , USA and led by Professor Arshad Husain. The course was held on 2-4 February in Colombo.
Course Objectives:
- To develop skills in identifying the psychological consequences of the Tsunami Disaster on children and their families.
- To provide hands on treatment practicum to physicians, mental health professionals, teachers, and other rescue workers to help children and their families better cope with their trauma and losses.
- To develop a road map to promote trauma recovery in children and their families and to enhance mental wellness.
- DWW signed an MOU with Ministry of Health Sri Lanka to build two health centers in Sainthhamartu and Oluvil. Tender process will be completed and building process will start soon.
