Following cessation of hostilities in the countries civil war, DWW undertook a fact finding trip in 2002, it was decided to work in the eastern district of Kono. Here the main district general hospital was mostly destroyed and its inside looted. Most of the surrounding peripheral health clinics had also ceased functioning due to lack of supplies, personnel and infrastructure.

Project

DWW entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Health. Working alongside a local partner organisation, medial equipment, including an anaesthetic machine, generator, x-ray machine, laboratory, paediatric and surgical equipment were sent to the hospital situated in Koido town in Kono district, this was installed in February 2003. The hospital in Kono is now fully functional and serving to the people in Kono district.
