Palestine Update: Gaza Nasser Hospital trauma centre opened

DWW-Turkey with help of another charity (Lighthouse) rehabilitated the Nasser Hospital trauma centre following an assessment during the conflict last year. The Nasser hospital despite being one of the main hospitals receiving trauma victims had poor and inadequate facilities.

A CT scan, x-ray machine, ultrasound machine, anaesthesiology machine, operating table and other equipment were donated to the hospital, to begin the process of instituting a major trauma centre. Once the current security situation improves DWW will provide further training to staff in relevant specialities.

This fully equipped new trauma centre should help Gazans in a number of ways, most obviously by providing a higher degree of care for those with multiple and serious injuries, the diagnostic equipment will of course also be used to enhance the general diagnostic capability of the hospital for all acute and chronic medical conditions. At present many acutely ill or patients with more complicated conditions are having to travel to surrounding countries for medical help, not only is this prohibitively expensive and also time consuming and inconvenient, but moving some of these patients maybe detrimental to their health.
