Pakistan Flood – 2011
While Pakistan was still reeling from last years epic floods, heavy monsoon rains struck and affected 5 million people and destroyed at least 1 million houses.
When the floods devastated Pakistan back in 2010, Doctors Worldwide were on the ground in Sind and the Northern areas affected by flood waters. We helped thousands with emergency medical and food aid.
The aftermath of such a disaster such cannot be restored in the space of a few months, which is why Doctors Worldwide remained in Pakistan to work on long term health development projects.
In 2011 during the monsoon season, Pakistan suffered further calamities from the heavy rains that destroyed so much of an already devastated country. Doctors Worldwide were able to act quickly due to our existing presence in the area and in addition, sent a senior medical team to join our staff in Pakistan and assist in the worst affected areas.
We began with the distribution of antimalarials, medicines and food. Where possible, our next step was to set up medical treatment facilities and fund doctors to support the displaced population until the recovery and rehabilitation could begin.
Doctors Worldwide currently run maternal and child health services in Pakistan.
