April 6, 2016

Every day nearly 1,000 mothers will die across the world due to complications in pregnancy and childbirth. These are avoidable deaths.

We are doing our bit to make a difference. During 2015, with your support, we helped 693 mothers give birth safely in one of Pakistan’s desperately poor provinces.  During 2015:

  • 2,655 ante natal care sessions were provided
  • 5,985 patient consultations were provided to sick Children
  • 4,508 patient consulations were provided to sick women and mothers.

It’s all part of DWW’s maternal health program in Pakistan, a country ranked 3rd highest in the world where newborns die on their first day of life every year and aims to help to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths. Serving a catchment area of over 500 villages with a population of around 30,000 in Qambar Shahdadkot District of Sind Province, DWW Junejo centre provides a vital lifeline (providing MNCH & ultrasound services) to expecting mothers, newborns and children in this desperately poor area, which borders Balochistan Province.

Our DWW Junejo centre has a team of 19 staff including women doctors and a pediatrician. Thanks to our Sind team led by our global lead on maternal health, Dr Beenish Hanif and Aftab Ahmed, local project manager.
