DWW has built a new 40 bed hospital in Lubumbashi in Congo (DRC) and opened 2 maternity centres in Katanga province of DRC . DWW has also recently completed 3 new maternity centres in rural areas of the same region and will be opened soon. With the help of Doctors Worldwide-Turkey we organized a campaign, which distributed meat to nearly 40,000 poor families across Congo. Over the past 2 years DWW has been organizing a circumcision campaign for poor families in DRC with over 80,000 boys operated on as part of an HIV prevention startegy. DWW medical teams run mobile health clinics to help displaced people in northern Katanga after the rebel activity.
DWW started “Villages of hope” project in DRC. 4 villages have been identified as pilot project. A Comprehensive relief package will be organized in this project (Healthcare facilities, safe drinking water, preventive measures for infectious diseases, help for schools, help for money generating projects etc.) after an initial needs assessment. As part of this project Lumata maternity clinic completed recently.
DWW medical teams provided medical relief in the earthquake areas of Pakistan . With the help of Doctors Worldwide-Turkey DWW completed the first permanent health centre post-earthquake in an area called Komikot near Muzafferabad (epicentre of the earthquake) which has been handed over to the local authorities. DWW has also started to build a children`s hospital in New Balakot area.
DWW has been running a primary care clinic in Bangladesh . DWW built a primary care clinic in an area of Tsunami hit Sri Lanka and handed over to the local health authorities.
In Niger , DWW will be funding the operations for women suffering from fistula complications from childbirth. We also plan to build a maternity clinic; through which improved maternity care can be taught.
DWW sent medicines to Lebanon and started new projects in Palestine.
